Andre Norman is the #1 prison success story in the world. Growing up in Boston, he faced poverty and illiteracy, and after giving up his dream of being a trumpet player, he turned to the streets. Eventually, Andre was sentenced to over 100 years in prison. He is now the founder of 2nd Chance University. During his first six years in prison, Andre immersed himself in prison culture, gaining status and recognition, which led to two years in solitary confinement. In solitary, Andre had an epiphany: he realized he had become the king of nowhere. Determined to change, he set a goal to attend Harvard and become successful, despite a one percent chance of succeeding. For the next eight years, Andre worked 20 hours a day, teaching himself to read, studying law, attending anger management and personal development groups. He was eventually awarded parole and released after serving 14 years. Just 90 minutes after his release, Andre gave his first speech to young men in juvenile detention, sharing three principles: accountability and mentorship, creating and living by a plan with integrity, and becoming a leader who never quits. For over 20 years, Andre has been teaching these principles globally, working with top organizations like YPO, EO, Genius Network, The White House, and Harvard. He currently runs the Academy of Hope, a violence reduction prison-based program. Andre's journey from hopelessness in prison to running prisons exemplifies why he is the #1 prison success story in the world.
