His background is unusual for the coaching world. Before building Phoenix Mind, Charley spent over a decade as a commodity trader working across Africa, Latin America, and Europe, handling large-scale volumes, working with governments and industrial operators, and building and leading commercial teams in complex, high-pressure environments. He founded Cayena Resources and developed deep expertise in international project structuring, capital raising, and operational leadership across emerging markets.

At the peak of his trading career, Charley experienced burnout, a turning point that would redefine the direction of his professional life. What followed was years of deep immersion in the psychology of performance, human behaviour, decision-making, and leadership. He studied and integrated frameworks from psychoanalysis, somatic practice, Buddhist philosophy, breathwork, and strategic coaching, and built a methodology that combined the rigour of his commercial background with the depth of genuine inner work.

That methodology became the foundation of Phoenix Mind and his seven-step framework, published in his book It's Not Just Mumbo Jumbo, part memoir, part practical manual for high-achieving professionals navigating transition, burnout, or the quiet but persistent sense that something needs to change. The book became an Amazon bestseller and has been endorsed by Tim Draper, the Silicon Valley venture capitalist and founder of Draper Associates.

Today, Charley coaches CEOs, founders, and senior executives on a 1:1 basis and runs Phoenix Mind: The Program, a four-month group coaching experience for accomplished professionals navigating major life or career decisions. His clients describe a consistent theme: the rare combination of hard commercial experience and genuine human depth, which allows him to meet leaders where they actually are, not where a coaching textbook assumes they should be.
