Gushwell holds an LLB (Bachelor of Laws) degree from the University of the Witwatersrand and was admitted as an Advocate of the High Court on 24 April 2025. He brings over a decade of experience across media, communications, human rights, and civil society, working at the intersection of law, public discourse, and social development.

He continue to freelance as a talk show host with Primedia Broadcasting’s Radio 702 and Cape Talk, work as a television anchor, and contribute written commentary to various publications in both his professional and personal capacity. As part of his writing portfolio, he is a contributing author to Bruce Whitfield’s latest book, The One Thing. His contribution appears on page 313 under the chapter Failing to Plan = Planning to Fail. Throughout his media career, his work has been firmly underpinned by a focus on human development, particularly examining human rights through a current affairs lens.

In addition to his existing media engagements, he will be launching a podcast focused on current affairs, aimed at fostering informed and nuanced public debate on pressing local and global issues. He also hosts a radio programme on legal matters on 91.9FM, where he translates complex legal concepts into accessible discussions for the broader public.

Gushwell is  knowledgeable across a wide range of subject areas, including artificial intelligence, human rights, climate change, international affairs, commerce, finance, business, and current affairs. He has gained international exposure through work-related travel across several African countries, including Malawi, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, and Angola, and has also travelled to the United States and Italy. This exposure has deepened his appreciation for international developments—particularly on the African continent—and for how socio-economic and political conditions beyond South Africa’s borders influence domestic realities.

Grounded in both academic training and professional experience, he is a socially conscious speaker who is mindful of ethical conduct and inclusive discourse, ensuring that engagement remains respectful and accessible to diverse audiences.

He is a professional, articulate, and well-prepared speaker, facilitator, moderator, programme director, and panellist. He is able to pivot quickly, ask incisive and challenging questions, and pursue truth and logical coherence in debate. He was a competitive debater at university, participating at provincial, national, and world championship levels. Gushwell's achievements include reaching the quarterfinals of the 2004 National Championships and being crowned Gauteng Provincial Champion in 2002.

He is confident that, if afforded the opportunity, you will find him to be a suitable and impactful speaker for corporate, civil society, and government engagements.
