Paula Slier is an award-winning international journalist, war correspondent and keynote speaker with more than 30 years' experience in media. She spent nearly two decades reporting from the front lines of war and conflict across the world, including Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia, Lebanon, Israel, Gaza, Russia and Ukraine.

Her work took her into environments where reliable information was often scarce, competing narratives were fiercely contested and decisions sometimes had to be made in seconds. She learned first-hand what happens when people have to distinguish signal from noise, assess competing sources and make consequential decisions without having all the facts.

Today, Paula brings those lessons from the frontline into boardrooms, conferences and executive education programmes. Her work explores human judgment, trust and decision-making in an age of information overload, information warfare, AI and synthetic reality. Through compelling first-hand stories and practical tools, she helps audiences examine how they decide what to believe, how narratives shape perception and how better decisions can be made when certainty is impossible.

Paula's work ranges from high-impact keynotes to interactive workshops in which participants are placed inside real-world scenarios and challenged to make decisions with incomplete, contradictory or manipulated information. She is a TEDx speaker and has twice been recognised as the Southern Africa winner in the media category of Africa's Most Influential Women in Business and Government Awards.

BEHIND THE FRONTLINE: THE WAR YOU DON’T SEE

What really happens behind the television pictures from a war zone? Drawing on nearly two decades of frontline reporting, Paula takes audiences inside the decisions, pressures, narratives and human realities that rarely make it to air. A first-hand look at modern conflict and what it teaches us about truth, perception and judgment.

FROM BOOTS ON THE GROUND TO BOTS ON THE SCREEN

The battlefield has changed. Wars are now fought not only with weapons, but with narratives, algorithms, manipulated content and AI. Paula draws on her experience of traditional information warfare to explore what happens when synthetic reality makes it increasingly difficult to know what, or whom, to believe.

THE BULLET I DIDN’T DODGE: HOW I LOST EVERYTHING & FOUND MYSELF

Paula survived war zones, rocket attacks and some of the world’s most dangerous assignments. The crisis that changed her life happened somewhere far more ordinary. A deeply personal keynote about loss, resilience, rebuilding and what happens when the story you believed about your own life falls apart.

FEARLESS & FEMALE: BREAKING BARRIERS ON THE FRONTLINE

From hostile war zones to male-dominated newsrooms, Paula shares lessons of building a career in places where women were not always expected to lead. An experiential keynote about courage, credibility, resilience and finding your voice without losing yourself.
