In 2009 while working as a lifeguard captain I suffered a near fatal skydiving accident. Shattering my body from impact the first thing the doctor told me was, “We managed to save your right leg.”
The compound femur fracture was so severe my right leg was nearly amputated. I snapped my left femur in half, broke my upper and lower right arm, shattered both my condyles, fractured my mandible, broke nine teeth that had to be extracted, fractured my skull and suffered a concussion.
Eleven months after the accident I went on to receive a lifesaving valor award, and took part in dozens of life saving rescues. I have led lifeguarding teams and surf guiding teams in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, China, UK and Indonesia.
Leadership, adaptiveness, resilience are skill sets learned through experience. My talks give not only the right tools and attitude it takes to lead a team, but also the failures where I learned some of my most valuable lessons. With over a decade of experience sharing my story, you will leave with the understanding of how your habits and routines will not only provide you with better leadership skills, tools, techniques but also a healthier way of day to day living.
